He Who Has A Why Can Bear Any How
Sometimes, we have a long list of things we want to achieve, but we are still not “serious” enough to make efforts towards all the ‘how-tos’ we need to focus on. I think most of us don’t have a problem outlining our dreams or goals, but our main problem lies in the discipline and effort required to pursue those dreams.
We get so excited when writing goals, but the same excitement is absent when it comes to putting in the effort. We’re lazy. As Seth Godin once said in his book, “There’s no shortage of remarkable ideas; what’s missing is the will to execute them.”
We can decide ‘what’ we want to achieve as easily as snapping our fingers. But do we truly understand the deep, meaningful reason why we want to achieve those goals?
Even if you do have the WHY, is your WHY strong enough to keep you disciplined, to make sure you never skip a single day of effort toward your goals? If you can skip even a day out of laziness, it means you might need to revisit your WHY. It’s not strong enough, yet.
Don’t get me wrong, taking a day off or a purposeful rest once in a while to avoid burnout is both logical and sometimes necessary. But if we’re constantly taking breaks, and it starts interfering with our consistent efforts, it’s no longer about avoiding burnout. We might have just lost our WHY. We’ve lost our meaning.
